BETA gets first female chairperson
There was history in the making when Alison Sherwood Bruce became the British Equestrian Trade Association’s first female chairperson at BETA’s AGM on 11 October. She joins executive director Claire Williams and president Jane Holderness Roddam in one of BETA’s top three roles.
Alison, sales director of Equilibrium Products, takes over from Roger Cooper, who has retired at the end of his two years in office. “Women play a huge role in the equestrian industry and they are well represented on BETA Council – far more than they were 10 years ago,” said Alison. “This is a reflection of the equestrian world today and I think it was only a matter of time before this role was filled by a woman.
“I see the chairperson’s job as helping to steer BETA in the right direction, giving members the right information and opportunities to help support them in the current climate. I’ve got some great people on Council and I’m looking forward to working together with the team at Stockeld Park.”
The AGM, which took place at The Belfry, near Birmingham, also saw the appointment of Ian Hassard, of Dengie Crops, as vice-chairperson, while Simon Parker, of British Horse Feeds, remained treasurer.
“We are very pleased to welcome Alison and Ian to their new roles,” said BETA executive director Claire Williams. “Their enthusiasm, business experience and total commitment to the work of BETA will be of tremendous benefit to the association.”
