Robocob
Look out for BETA RoboCob, a life-size mechanical horse, on the show circuit this season. The computer driven riding simulator responds to the rider’s leg and hand aids and has five ‘gears’ – walk to gallop.
Weighing in at 400kg and equipped with a conventional saddle and bridle, he can offers new riders a feel for the real thing, novices their first taste of trot or canter, while experienced equestrians can hone their skills.
To be found at many shows and equine fairs, on the BETA stand or that of a BETA Member company, RoboCob always arrives in style in his very own BETA-branded trailer.
Last year, donations from BETA RoboCob riders amounted hundred of pounds which BETA has sent to Riding for the Disabled.
RoboCob can be hired by both members and non-members alike. He comes complete with his own transport, which doubles as a show unit. He is great at shows and events, both horsey and non. He is a real draw and can be ridden like a real horse, with the rider able, if confident, to control the pace of the horse. Robo has 5 paces from walk to gallop and his speed is controlled by either sensor pads on both sides, or by an operator on the ground. He does not buck, or kick and is great to give nervous riders confidence, or give those who have never been on a horse, their first taste.
Robocob is 15.2 hands (gender unspecified) and takes an extra wide saddle, though he comes equipped with his own made to measure saddle and a complete set of hats.
