Hot Topics Aired at BETA Conference
Seventy delegates, from large international brands to small independent retailers, gathered at the British Equestrian Trade Association’s 2013 Conference to hear a line-up of key industry experts speaking on some of the sector’s most topical subjects.
Presentations ranged from better retailing to digital marketing at the event, which took place at Whittlebury Hall Hotel & Spa, near Towcester, Northamptonshire. Tony Mooney, of First Data Merchant Services, highlighted the risks of credit card fraud, Asad Ali, a partner in Leeds-based Blacks Solicitors, looked at protection of intellectual property, and Mike Berry, of the Digital Marketing Institute, explored options for enhancing a marketing campaign through use of the increasingly wide range of digital media available today.
Richard Dearden, managing director of John Lewis, Brent Cross, gave a fascinating insight into this successful high-street chain and its operating model, and Bill Smith, aka The Shop Doctor, brought his extensive knowledge of retailing to the conference, providing a powerful presentation packed with tips on how to generate increased footfall and encourage existing customers to spend more.
“The conference was very well attended and it was pleasing to see so many new faces there,” said BETA executive director Claire Williams. “Everyone was extremely enthusiastic and keen to hear the presentations. They also enjoyed catching up with colleagues and making lots of valuable, new contacts. The response has been very positive and there have been lots of suggestions for topics to be discussed next year. Watch this space…”
